The meaning of the Greek word 'huios'

The meaning of the Greek word 'huios'
The Greek word "huios" simply means "a son" or "a child." The Greek word "huios" is freely used throughout the New Testament

1. It is used by the Angel Gabriel in Luke 1:36 to describe baby John in the womb as a son for Elizabeth.

2. It is used twice in Jesus' famous parable of the prodigal son, "for this my son (huios) was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.' And they began to be merry. Now his older son (huios) was in the field," Luke 15:24, 25vs. 24 (NKJ). The word "Huios" is used to describe both the prodigal son and the prodigal son's brother. Both sons are described as "huios".

3. Perhaps the most famous use of the word "Huios" was when Jesus was baptised: "And lo a voice from Heaven, saying, "This is My beloved Son, (Huios) in whom I am well pleased," Matthew 3:17, KJV.

Elizabeth went into seclusion after conceiving John the Baptist

Zaccharias and Elizabeth lived in Judea according to Luke 1:39. According to the Bible, Elizabeth went into seclusion after conceiving, as described in Luke 1:24-26, "Soon afterwards Elizabeth his wife became pregnant and went into seclusion for five months. The following month God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a village in Galilee" TLB.

Appearance of the Angel Gabriel to Mary

We now move on six months to December of 4 B.C. In December of 4 B.C, Joseph and Mary were engaged to be married, and lived in Nazareth.

The Angel Gabriel appeared to the Virgin Mary to announce the conception of Baby Jesus by the Holy Spirit.

The Angel Gabriel told Mary that:

1. Mary would conceive Jesus Christ by the Holy Spirit.

2. That her cousin Elizabeth had already conceived a son six months before.

This is described in Luke 1:36, "Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren" NKJ.

Note that Gabriel said in the above passage that Elizabeth had not conceived a foetus, but a son!

1. The word "son" (Greek: huios) is used to describe:

- Baby John the Baptist at conception as a son for Elizabeth in Luke 1:36.

- The prodigal son, and his brother, also a son, probably teenagers, in Luke 15:24,25.

- Jesus Christ, as the Son of God, as an adult in Matthew 3:17.

2. The New Testament does not differentiate between sons of different ages.

3. The status of a son starts at conception.

4. Obviously baby John the Baptist was supremely important to God, even in Elizabeth's womb.

5. God loves all babies in the womb, because all babies in the womb are all small sons or daughters.

6. Jesus loved all children. He said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these," Matthew 19:14 NIV.

7. John the Baptist's life started at conception.

8. Conception is when the life of every single baby starts.

9. This has profound implications. According to the Bible, the conceived egg, known by some as an "embryo", or a "foetus" is, according, to the Bible a daughter or a son, and is a small human being.
10. ALL of these images are of CHILDREN, according to the Bible!
